Causes

  • The obvious causes of brain Injury may be a stroke, accident or medical event.
  • There is also another consequent negative effect on the brain's recovery potential which stems from the impact of the brain injury on the breathing quality of the child or adult involved.
  • Breathing affects blood circulation and oxygen delivery to the brain, posture, muscular skeletal structure, speech, sleep and general health and is thus responsible for the healthy dynamic interactions between bodily systems.
  • Abnormal breathing creates physiological stress which is couterproductive to recovery potential after a brain injury.
  • Therefore to optimise recovery potential breathing quality matters to individuals with brain injuries.

Since all areas of the brain infuence breathing in different ways the effects of abnormal breathing on brain injuries also varies depending which areas of the brain are involved .To gain a clearer picture of these relationships please also see our Cerebral Palsy or Autism or ADD sections.

Effects

TST ' massage' therapy strengthens and develops the breathing  of children with brain injuries and so optimises the brain's recovery potential.
